Biography:
Mykola Kornylovych Pymonenko was a Ukrainian realist painter born on March 9, 1862, in Priorka, Ukraine. He is best known for his urban and rural genre scenes of farmers, country folk and working-class people. Pymonenko studied iconography at the Kyiv-Pecherska Lavra and later at the Kyiv Art School. He was a member of the Imperial Academy of Arts from 1904. One of his students was Kazimir Malevich, whose early works were influenced by Pymonenko. He died on March 26, 1912, in Kyiv, Ukraine.
