Biography:
Caspar (or Gaspar) Netscher was a Dutch portrait and genre painter. He was born in Heidelberg or Prague and was a master in depicting oriental rugs, silk and brocade. He introduced an international style to the Northern Netherlands. He was a pupil of Gerard ter Borch and became a master painter in The Hague. He was patronized by William III and gained both fame and wealth with his paintings. He died in The Hague in 1684.
