Biography:

Orovida Camille Pissarro, also known as Orovida, was a British painter and etcher. She was born in Epping, United Kingdom, in 1893, and was the only child of the French artist Lucien Pissarro and his wife, Esther. Orovida's grandfather was the Impressionist painter Camille Pissarro. She was of Portuguese-Jewish descent. Orovida displayed her talent at a young age and studied briefly with Walter Sickert in 1913 and with her father in Paris in 1914. She had her first exhibition in 1921, sharing it with the French artist Marie Laurencin. For most of her career, Orovida distanced herself from the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist styles of her father and grandfather, favoring a technique influenced by Chinese and other Asiatic art. However, in the last quarter of her career, she developed a manner that drew on both traditions. Orovida died in London in 1968.
