Biography:

Pauline Kruger Hamilton was an American photographer born in 1870 in Middleton, Wisconsin, United States. She became a royal court photographer in Vienna, Austria, after her first husband's death. She was known for her photography and studied painting, but was noticed for her photographic work. Hamilton was a friend of feminist activist May Wright Sewall and corresponded with her from Germany. She returned to the United States in 1915 to advocate for support for the widows and orphans of World War I. Her photo of a child in Austria was used for the 1919 American Red Cross annual campaign and membership drive. She died in 1918, suspected of being a spy, and her death was verified by the Department of Justice.
