Biography:

Peter Schlumbohm was a German inventor, best known for creating the Chemex Coffeemaker. He was born in Kiel, Germany in 1896 and completed a PhD in chemistry at the University of Berlin. He fought in the German army during World War I and later brought some of his designs to the United States in an attempt to sell patent rights. He relocated to New York City in 1936 and obtained patents in various fields, including lighting systems and unburnable gasoline. He exhibited a prototype of an ‘open system’ transitory refrigeration cycle device at the New York World’s Fair in 1939. He died in 1962.
