Biography:
Petros Moraites was a Greek painter and photographer born in Tinos, Greece in about 1835 and died in 1905. He began his career as a painter in 1855 and exhibited in Paris. In 1859, he became interested in photography under the influence of Athanasias Kalfas, who had been trained in Paris. In 1860, Moraites opened his own photography studio in Athens, where he produced portraits, landscapes, and architectural views. He is best known for his photographs of Athens and the surrounding area, which are characterized by their clarity, detail, and artistic composition. Moraites's work is an important contribution to the history of photography in Greece and is highly regarded for its technical and artistic merit.
