Biography:
Philippe Venet was a French fashion designer born in Lyon, France in 1929. He began his career at the age of 14, apprenticing with a local dressmaker authorized to reproduce Balenciaga designs. In 1951, he moved to Paris and worked as a cutter at Schiaparelli, where he met Hubert de Givenchy. He followed Givenchy when he established his own label two years later, serving as head cutter until 1962. That year, Venet founded his own brand, which he declined in prêt-à-porter, parfums and accessories. He became a member of the Chambre Syndicale de la haute couture. He was known for dressing the social set and 'all the Kennedy ladies,' infusing conservative clothes with a youthful spirit. His clients included arts patron Hélène David-Weill, actress Jacqueline Delubac and American society figures Mica Ertegun, Jayne Wrightsman and Marina Kellen French. He died in Paris in 2021.
