Biography:

Denys Puech was a French sculptor born on December 3, 1854 in Gavernac, France and died on December 1942 in Rodez, France. He was a student of François Mahoux, François Jouffroy, Alexandre Falguière and Henri Chapu. He won the second prize in the prix de Rome contest in 1881 and 1883, and the first prize in 1884. He received several official commissions from the French Third Republic and sculpted busts of Jules Ferry, Charles Augustin Sainte-Beuve, Émile Loubet and Benito Mussolini. He founded the Musée Denys-Puech in Rodez in 1903. He was elected a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1910 and was awarded the Legion of Honor in 1925.
