Biography:

Polyphon Musikwerke AG was a German company that manufactured disc-playing music boxes, known as Polyphons. The machine was invented in 1870 and full-scale production started around 1896. They also operated as a record label, registered in 1908, and traded under the Polydor label since 1913.
