Biography:
Pompeo Marino Molmenti was an Italian painter born in Villanova in Motta di Livenza, Italy in 1819 and died in Venice in 1894. He was known for his landscape paintings and genre scenes depicting life among the poor. Molmenti studied at the Accademia of Venice and was a teacher to Luigi Nono. His paintings often depicted the harsh realities of everyday life, such as homeless mothers and children, and the funeral of a child. Some of his notable works include 'Pia dei Tolomei Conducted in Maremma' (1853), 'La caccia ai grilli' (1880), 'The Fruitseller' (1880), 'L'Ave Maria' (1881), 'La povera madre' (1881), and 'Refugium peccatorum' (1881). Molmenti's grandson, Luigi Nono, was also an Italian avant-garde music composer.
