Preston Sampson is an African American artist, born in Preston, Mississippi in 1960. He is a classically trained artist who works in the mediums of painting, printmaking, and pulp painting. Preston Sampson is known for his use of color and his illuminating works on un-stretched and unprimed canvases, which have gained him the acclaim of a coterie of private and institutional art collectors. He is also known for his commitment to shining a light on gun violence against black men in America and uses bullet casings in his art to tell that distressing story. Preston Sampson is an internationally renowned artist and distinguished alumnus of the University of Maryland.
