Biography:
Pietro Cignolini was an internationally known pioneer of cardiovascular diagnostic radiology. He invented the instrumentation to perform kymography, specifically the so-called Cignolini’s polykymograph. Born in Genoa in 1897, he obtained his professorship in radiology in 1929 and served as chief department of the Medical Clinic at the University of Genoa from 1926 to 1956. He authored around 300 scientific publications, including many medical treatises, and reached an international reputation in the field of cardiovascular radiodiagnostics.
