Rachel Jane Reeves, also known as Rachel Taylor Evans, is a British politician who was born on February 13, 1979, in Leeds, United Kingdom. She joined the Labour Party at the age of sixteen and later studied economics and worked in the Bank of England. After two unsuccessful attempts to be elected to the House of Commons, she was elected as the MP for the seat of Leeds West at the 2010 general election. Reeves held several roles in the shadow cabinets of Ed Miliband and Keir Starmer, most notably as Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2021 to 2024. She has been the Chancellor of the Exchequer and Second Lord of the Treasury since July 2024. Reeves is known for her advocacy of modern supply-side economics and her efforts to improve economic growth, reduce inequality, and minimize environmental damage.
