Biography:

Raden Mas Sayid, also known as Raden Mas Soeyid, was an Indonesian artist born in Parepare, Indonesia in 1893. He passed away in 1979. Raden Mas Sayid was known for his leather artwork, including the piece 'Prince Diponegoro' which he created in 1950. He was a prominent artist during the Indonesian National Awakening, a time when several indigenous Indonesian organizations were founded, including Muhammadiyah, which he was a part of. Raden Mas Sayid was also a member of the Masyumi Party and served as the inaugural chief cleric of the Indonesian Ulema Council. He was granted honorary doctorates by Al-Azhar University and Malaysian National University, and was named an Indonesian National Hero. Raden Mas Sayid's work is significant in the context of Indonesian art and culture, and his contributions to the country's artistic and religious landscape continue to be celebrated.
