Biography:
Sekkyakushi, also known as 'Red-legged person', was a Japanese artist who was active during the first half of the 15th century. He was a pioneer of Zen ink painting and a member of the studio of Zen monk Mincho. Sekkyakushi is best known for his work 'Oxherding', which is a hanging scroll from the Muromachi period. He is also known for his painting 'Bokudō zu, Sekkyakushi hitsu' (Sekkyakushi’s painting of the Ox and Herdboy).
