Biography:

Richard Allmand Blow (1904-1983) was an American artist who helped Italy resurrect the dying, 16th-century Medici-era, mosaic art of pietra dura by introducing a fresh, new iconography, including Cubism, Surrealism, and Abstract Expressionism. He was born in La Salle, Illinois, and died in New York, New York. Blow is known for his landscape-structure, inlaid stone works. Following World War II, he lived and worked in Florence, Italy, where he became a master of the pietra dura technique. His works are represented in numerous private and public collections, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
