Biography:
Robert Vaughn was an American actor known for his work on stage, film and television. He had a career spanning nearly six decades and received numerous awards including the Primetime Emmy Award, Golden Globe Awards, Academy Award nomination, and BAFTA Award nomination. Some of his most notable roles include Chester A. Gwynn in The Young Philadelphians (1960), Lee in The Magnificent Seven (1960), Napoleon Solo on The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (1964-1968), Harry Rule on The Protectors (1972-1974), Albert Stroller on Hustle (2004-2012) and Milton Fanshaw in Coronation Street (January-February 2012). Vaughn was also active in Democratic Party politics, serving as chair of the California Democratic State Central Committee speakers bureau during the 1960s. He earned a Ph.D. in communications and his doctoral thesis on blacklisting is considered an important work on the subject.
