Biography:
Romano Rui was an Italian sculptor born in Sarone, a frazione of Caneva, in provincia di Pordenone in 1915. He died in Milan in 1977. He was a prolific artist who worked with various materials such as bronze, ceramic, marble, resins, wood, copper and other metallic materials. He was an allievo of Leone Lodi and studied sculpture at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, where he was a classmate of Francesco Messina. From 1942 to 1952, he worked as an assistant to Adolfo Wildt at the Brera Academy. He was also a professor of sculpture at the Brera Academy from 1952 to 1977. He was a member of the National Academy of San Luca and the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera. He was awarded the Premio Nazionale delle Arti in 1962. He was known for his abstract and figurative sculptures, and his work is represented in numerous public and private collections in Italy and around the world.
