Halston, whose real name is Roy Halston Frowick, was an American fashion designer born on April 23, 1932, in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. He died on March 26, 1990, in San Francisco, California. Halston was known for his elegant and minimalist designs, which were often made of cashmere or ultrasuede. He rose to international fame in the 1970s and redefined American fashion with his relaxed urban lifestyle for women. Halston's designs were popular in discotheques and were frequently worn by his close friends, including Liza Minnelli, Bianca Jagger, Joe Eula, and Andy Warhol. He started his career as a milliner and gained recognition when he designed the pillbox hat Jacqueline Kennedy wore to her husband's inauguration in 1961. Halston later transitioned to women's clothing and opened a boutique on Madison Avenue in New York. He lost control of his fashion house in the 1980s due to several ill-advised business decisions. Halston died of AIDS-related cancer in 1990 at the age of 57.
