Biography:

Rudolph Buchner was a Sydney photographer whose parents lived in Manly. He interrupted his practice to serve in World War 1, but returned to the city afterwards. His sitters included Walter Burley Griffin, Louise Carbasse, Elioth Gruner, Mary Gilmore and many other notable figures. Buchner was known for his portraits of artists, writers, and intellectuals, and his work is an important record of the cultural life of Sydney in the early 20th century.
