Biography:

Sarah Eakin Cowan (1875 - 1958) was active/lived in New York, North Carolina. Sarah Cowan is known for Painter, miniaturist. She studied in Paris at Académie Julian and painted full size and miniature portraits and silhouettes. She became known in the South for her scenes of post-slave rural African American life and exhibited her paintings in New York City. She was an organizer for the 1915 Exhibition of Painting and Sculpture by Women Artists for the Benefit of the Woman Suffrage Campaign and created works of art for the event.
