Biography:
Bill Genaust was a United States Marine Corps sergeant and combat motion picture cameraman. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1906. Genaust was killed in action on March 4, 1945, during the Battle of Iwo Jima while filming the Marines' advance. He was 38 years old. Genaust is best known for his color footage of the second flag raising on Mount Suribachi, which established that the event was not staged. His remains have never been found.
