Biography:
Song Wenzhi was a Chinese painter known for his depictions of both pastoral and industrialized landscapes. He studied the works of the Four Wangs under Zhang Shiuan in Shanghai and later followed the well-known painter and connoisseur Wu Hufan. In 1957, he joined the Jiangsu Painting Academy where he came under the influence of Fu Baoshi. Song's paintings capture the remarkable beauty and atmosphere of the Jiangnan area, particularly scenes along the Yangzi River. He is especially skillful in applying texture strokes and washes.
