Biography:
Beowulf Sheehan is an American photographer known for portraits of authors, artists, and celebrities. He was born on November 8, 1968, in Kansas City, Missouri, to a German mother and an American father. Raised in South Florida, he spent part of his childhood abroad. Due to asthma, his early years were spent reading books and learning about art. In high school, he photographed Miami Dolphins games and realized his love for the craft. After studying at New York University and the International Center of Photography, Sheehan assisted other photographers while working predominantly in fashion for six years. Later opportunities led him to photograph figures from arts and culture for publishers, publications, academic and cultural institutions. His photographs have been exhibited at various museums and included in permanent collections such as the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.
