Biography:

Tony Oursler is an American multimedia and installation artist, born in Manhattan in 1957. He grew up in a well-to-do family in Nyack, New York. Oursler completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the California Institute for the Arts, Valencia, California in 1979. He is known for his fractured-narrative handmade videotapes, single-channel tapes, and installations. Oursler's work has been exhibited in public institutions including the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; documenta VIII, IX, Kassel; Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; and the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh. He is represented by Anglim Gilbert Gallery, San Francisco, CA; Lehmann Maupin Gallery; and Lisson Gallery. Oursler is married to Jacqueline Humphries.
