Biography:

Tuan Andrew Nguyen is a Vietnamese-American artist born in 1976 in Sài Gòn, Vietnam. He is known for his moving-image works, sculptures, and installations. Nguyen's art explores counter-memory, testimony, and dialogue as forms of political resistance and empowerment, focusing on underrepresented histories and the fragmented consciousness of colonial inheritance and cultural estrangement. His work combines factual and speculative elements, often incorporating archival resources, fiction, animism, and supernatural realms to rework dominant narratives and imagine alternate forms of healing, survival, and political potentiality. In 2023, he received the Joan Miró Prize. Nguyen is a cofounding member of the artist collective The Propeller Group and is based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
