Vanessa German is an American sculptor, painter, writer, activist, performer, and poet born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1976. She is known for her assemblage sculptures made from recycled materials, often depicting female figures with black painted faces and heads. Her work addresses issues such as gun violence and prostitution, and she has received numerous awards for her art and activism. German has had her work exhibited in galleries and museums across the United States and is held in the permanent collections of several institutions. She currently lives and works in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
