Biography:

Ward Lockwood was an American painter, art teacher and veteran of two world wars. He was born in Atchison, Kansas in 1894 and died in Taos, New Mexico in 1963. He studied at the University of Kansas, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, and Academy Ransom in Paris. He taught art at both UC Berkeley and the University of Texas. He was known for his modernist style of watercolor painting and his New Deal era public artwork commissions for new federal buildings. He was a member of the Taos Artists Colony in the 1920s and 1930s.
