Wardell Milan is an American visual artist born in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1978. He currently resides in New York City. Milan's work encompasses drawing, painting, photography, and three-dimensional dioramas. He considers his work to be 'visual narratives' that can be interpreted linearly or non-linearly. Milan often appropriates photographs and found objects in his work, and draws inspiration from literature, philosophy, and human nature. He has cited the works of Tennessee Williams, Alice Walker, and James Baldwin as offering him insight into storytelling. Milan has exhibited his work in galleries and museums around the world, including Fraenkel Gallery in San Francisco and Studio Museum in Harlem in New York City.
