Biography:
William McIlvaine Jr. was an American artist born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1813. He received a master of arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and then traveled and studied art in Europe. He was primarily a watercolorist, known for his landscape and Civil War scene images, as well as his gold rush sketches. He passed away in 1867.
