Biography:
Yohanan Simon was a German-born Israeli painter. He was born in Berlin in 1905 and lived mainly in France from 1927. He worked in New York for the magazine Vogue from 1934 to 1936, when he immigrated to Mandate Palestine. He was a member of Kibbutz Gan Shmuel until 1953 and executed a number of murals for Israeli ships, public buildings and hotels, including Bank of Israel offices in New York and a hotel in Côte d'Ivoire. He also illustrated books and designed stage sets. He died in 1976.
