Biography:
Yorgos Lazongas is a Greek artist born in Larissa in 1945. He studied Architecture at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki from 1963 to 1970, but eventually devoted himself to painting. In 1970 he was awarded at the Goethe Institute’s competition for young artists. Lazongas has served postmodernism initially through body art, leaving traces of life in objects of everyday life, at times through the “battle” of the sexes, either as conflict in the relationship between man and woman or as a confrontation with society's expectations. Lazongas’ work is characterized by its use of unconventional materials such as spray paint on bedsheets. He has exhibited his works at various international art events including documenta 14, where he presented two pieces from his Blind Painting series in 2017. In addition to being an artist, Lazongas is also a writer and philosopher who has published several books on philosophy and aesthetics. His latest publication titled 'Randomness as Method' was released by the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Greece.
