The artwork features two groups of naked women: two models lying in the foreground and three bathers in the background, located on the right side. One of the models is Andrée Hessling, who later became the first wife of Renoir's son, Jean.
Renoir's Late Period
'The Great Bathers' represents Renoir's late work period (1892–1919). During this time, he focused on creating paintings with a softer and more voluptuous style. The natural setting of the painting reflects his fascination with depicting the female form in harmony with nature.
