Bernard Tschumi is a French-Swiss architect, writer, and educator, commonly associated with deconstructivism. He was born in Lausanne, Switzerland in 1944, to a Swiss architect father and a French mother. Tschumi studied in Paris and at ETH in Zurich, where he received his degree in architecture in 1969. He is known for his work in deconstructivism, and has been recognized as one of today’s foremost architects. He has been instrumental in exploring architecture as a non-representational, non-utilitarian, and non-anthropomorphic phenomenon. Tschumi is also known for his theoretical work, including the book 'Architecture and Disjunction' and the manifesto 'The Manhattan Transcripts'. He has been awarded numerous prizes and honors, including the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2002. Tschumi currently lives and works in New York City and Paris.
