Mercedes Altarriba is a French actress born in Paris on 18 June 1939. She is the granddaughter of Paul Fort, a symbolist poet. She started her career in revues and musical theatre, then made her film debut at 17. Altarriba was also active in Italian cinema, with her last French television appearance being in the first episode of the TV series The Aeronauts in 1967. She is not to be confused with Mercedes Altarriba, a Spanish artist and scénariste de bande dessinée et de télévision.
