Geraldo de Barros Pereira was a Brazilian painter and photographer born on February 27, 1923, in São Paulo, Brazil. He passed away on April 17, 1998. De Barros was a leader of the concrete art movement in Brazil and co-founded Grupo Ruptura. He was known for his trailblazing work in experimental abstract photography and modernism. His Fotoformas series (1946-1952) captured a phenomenological experience of Brazil's exponential urbanization in the mid-twentieth century. According to The Guardian, De Barros was 'one of the most influential Brazilian artists of the 20th century.'
