Frans Huys was a Flemish engraver and draftsman born in Antwerp in 1522. He initially worked as a painter but later turned to engraving in the 1550s. Huys worked for the famous publisher Hieronymus Cock. In 1543, he married the daughter of the woodcutter and publisher Willem Liefrinck. He was a significant figure in the Romanist movement, which aimed to integrate Italian influences into Northern painting traditions. Huys died in 1562.
