Jean-Nicolas Roettiers, also known as Jean-Nicolas Roettiers the Younger, was a French silversmith and engraver born in Paris in 1705 and died in 1789. He was the son of Jacques Roettiers, a renowned goldsmith and engraver, and the brother of Jacques-Nicolas Roettiers, a goldsmith and medalist. Jean-Nicolas Roettiers was admitted to the Parisian goldsmiths' guild in 1725 and became a master in 1732. He was appointed as a goldsmith to the French court in 1738 and became the king's engraver in 1749. Roettiers was a prolific artist who produced numerous silverware, including the pair of coffee jugs dated 1772. He also designed many medals and coins for the French monarchy. Roettiers was a member of the Academy of Saint-Luc and was awarded the title of knight of the Order of Saint-Michel in 1767. He was also a member of the Academy of Inscriptions and Belles-Lettres and the Academy of Sciences. Roettiers was a prominent figure in the French art world and was recognized for his exceptional talent and contributions to the field of silversmithing and engraving.
