Jodocus Hondius, also known as Joost de Hondt, was a Flemish and Dutch engraver and cartographer. He is sometimes referred to as Jodocus Hondius the Elder to distinguish him from his son Jodocus Hondius II. Born in Wakken, Belgium on October 17, 1563, he grew up in Ghent where he established himself as an engraver, instrument maker, and globe maker.
