Louis Delanois was a Parisian menuisier who specialized in seat furniture in the late Rococo taste and an advanced neoclassical taste. He was born in Paris in 1731 and died in Paris in 1792. Delanois was the most important menuisier in the period of Transition. He was known for his dossiers de siège, dits en 'cul de four'. He was received as a master on July 27, 1761. Delanois's notable patrons included mme du Barry, the comte d'Artois, brother of the king, Philippe, duc de Chartres and the duc de Condé. Foreigners like the king of Poland and the duke of Dorset also bought furniture from Delanois, whose manuscript account book survives in the Archives de la Seine. After selling off his furniture business in 1777, Delanois attempted to extend his business into the timber trade and property speculation, but this resulted in bankruptcy by 1789.
