Marek Basiul is a polish artist born in 1961 in Giżycko, Poland. He studied graphic arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. In 1987, he obtained his diploma with honors in the Relief Printing Studio of Professor Ryszard Krzywicki, for which he received the Minister of Culture and Art Award for Graphics at the National Review of Diplomas '87 at the Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw. He currently works in the Graphic Department at his alma mater, where he leads the Relief Printing Studio. He specializes in workshop graphics, mainly linocut. He has had over 20 individual exhibitions and has participated in around 250 group exhibitions in Poland and abroad. He has received over 30 awards and distinctions. Some of his most notable awards include: 1987 - First prize for Graphics at the 11th National Review of Student Graphics, Kraków; 1988 - Minister of Culture and Art Award for Graphics at the National Review of Diplomas '87, Zachęta, Warsaw; 1999 - Third prize at the International Biennial of Small Graphic Forms and Exlibris, Ostrów Wielkopolski; 2000 - First prize at the 6th International Biennial of Miniature Arts, Gornji Milanovac, Serbia; 2002 - First prize at the 2nd International Biennial of Miniature, Ośrodek Promocji Kultury, Częstochowa; 2004 - Regulatory Award at the VII International Triennial of Art, Majdanek; 2005 - Honorary Medal at the 12th International Triennial of Small Graphic Forms, Łódź; 2005 - First prize at the 1st International Biennial of Exlibris and Small Graphic Forms, Gniezno; 2006 - Distinction at the International Exlibris Competition, Sint-Niklaas, Belgium; 2006 - Regulatory Award at the 18th International Triennial of Graphics, Kraków; 2007 - Grand Prix at the 9th Quadrennial of Polish Woodcut and Linocut, Olsztyn; 2009 - First prize at the 1st International Biennial of Eastern Art, Łódź.
