Biografija:

Petrus Plancius, also known as Pieter Platevoet, was a Dutch-Flemish astronomer, cartographer, and clergyman born in Dranouter, Belgium in 1552. He studied theology in Germany and England and became a minister in the Dutch Reformed Church. After fleeing religious persecution in Brussels, he settled in Amsterdam where he developed an interest in navigation and cartography. He gained expertise in safe maritime routes to India and the nearby 'spice islands', which led to the establishment of the Dutch East India Company in 1602. Petrus Plancius also played a significant role in the creation of several constellations, including Volans and Monoceros.
