Prospero Minghetti was an Italian painter born in Reggio d'Émilie in 1786 and died in the same city in 1853. He was a neo-classical artist who studied in Bologna with Giovanni Battista Frulli and Francesco Rosaspina, then moved to Rome to study with Antonio Canova and Tommaso Minardi. He painted religious works for various churches in Reggio d'Émilie, as well as portraits for notable figures such as Napoleon I and Francesco IV of Modena. He was also a teacher and served as director of the Scuola di Belle Arti di Reggio Emilia from 1831 until his death in 1853.
