Thomas Aquinas (also known as Thomas of Aquin or Aquino; Italian: Tommaso d'Aquino; Latin: Thomas de Aquino) was a Dominican friar, Catholic priest, and Doctor of the Church. He is considered one of the greatest thinkers of the Middle Ages and one of the most influential thinkers in Western philosophy and theology. Born in 1225 in Roccasecca, Italy, to a noble family, Aquinas studied at the University of Naples and later joined the Dominican Order. He became a renowned scholar and teacher, writing extensively on theology, philosophy, and science. His most famous work is the Summa Theologica, which presents a comprehensive system of Christian theology. Aquinas died in 1274 while returning from the Second Council of Lyon.
