Vasily Semyonovich Bogatyryov was a Russian painter and art teacher. He was born in Kazan, Russia in 1857 and died in 1941. Bogatyryov was a prominent figure in the Russian art world and was known for his landscapes and portraits. He was a member of the Peredvizhniki movement, a group of realist painters who sought to bring art to the people. Bogatyryov was also a respected art teacher and taught at the Kazan Art School and the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. His work is held in collections around the world, including the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow and the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg.
