Barthélemy Lauvergne was a French painter, maritime, and landscape artist who was born in Toulon, France on July 4, 1805. He was from a family with no previous naval tradition and first arrived in Australia on board the 'Astrolabe' for its 1826/1829 voyage of the Australian coast.

Barthélemy Lauvergne became attached to the commission scientifique d'Islande (1838-1840) and was later appointed to the dépôt des cartes et plans in Paris. He participated in the publication of a hundred planches lithographiées d'après ses dessins.
