Claude Lawrence is an American Postwar & Contemporary artist who was born in 1944. Their work is currently being shown at Colby College Museum of Art in Waterville. Lawrence grew up on the South Side of Chicago, immersed in the city’s thriving arts and music scene. He began his career as a visual artist in the 1980s, after a successful career as a jazz musician. Lawrence’s work is characterized by his use of vibrant colors and bold brushstrokes, often depicting abstracted figures and landscapes. He has exhibited his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions, and his work is held in numerous public and private collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the National Gallery of Art.
