David Bielander is a Swiss-born artist based in Munich, Germany. He was born in Basel, Switzerland in 1968. Bielander is known for his intriguing jewelry pieces that defy user expectations and push the limits of what an ornament can be. He has received formal training in goldsmithing, completing apprenticeships in Basel and Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany. He later attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Bielander's works investigate questions about identity, affiliation, judgement, and perception, and how they are steered. He takes familiar objects and combines them with witty abstraction to create truly uncanny artworks. His realm of inquiry encompasses the play of identity, belonging, dissonance, and the familiar.
