Inoue Yūichi was a Japanese avant-garde calligrapher who embodied the self-discipline and experimental spirit of Japan's early post-war decades. Inoue received his training under Ueda Sōkyū and co-founded the avant-garde calligraphy group Bokujin-kai. He is known for his abstract and expressive calligraphy style, often incorporating Western influences and techniques. Inoue's work has been exhibited and collected internationally, and he is considered one of the most important postwar Japanese artists.
