Un ponte in legno abbraccia un fiume. In lontananza sono le montagne, e poi una chiesa spire e le case di un villaggio. I dettagli della composizione possono essere basati sulla topografia di luoghi specifici nella valle del Danubio, ma il paesaggio probabilmente non è inteso come una vista di un luogo particolare. Questa immagine è un esempio molto precoce di un artista europeo occidentale di un paesaggio indipendente dipinto senza figure. Un secondo paesaggio di Altdorfer a Monaco (Alte Pinakothek) è anche senza figure; l'immagine attuale forse risale a circa 1518-20 e può essere la prima delle due.
